The 2000 Barbera d'Alba Gallina was aged 16-18 months in new French oak. It offers an explosive bouquet of tobacco, sweet black fruits, licorice, and earth. Full-bodied, intense, and velvety-textured, with great palate presence, it should be consumed over the next 5-6 years to take advantage of its exuberance. Saturated ruby. Aromas of black cherry, blackberry, cassis, violet and bitter chocolate. Lush and dense but vibrant and delineated, with mounting sweetness leavened by a violety floral character. Oaky but also impressively primary. Finishes very long, with scented flavors of black fruits.
