The IGT Isola dei Nuraghi 2011 Barrua is a hearty blend of 85% Carignano, 10% Cabernet Sauvignon and 5% Merlot that is aged up to 18 months in oak. The wine boasts a compelling international signature that borrows from the great wines of Bolgheri and Bordeaux. The fruit reaches perfect maturity with luscious ripeness and deep aromatic intensity. At the back are pretty spice, tobacco and dark chocolate tones that build the wine's personality. Barrua will hold five years or more.

85% Carignano, 10% Cabernet Sauvignon, 5% Merlot. Grown on medium-textured limestone, clay and sand at 145 m above sea level. 5,600 vines/ha. Pruning: guyot, spurred cordon. Yield 48 hl/ha. Vinification: Grapes vinified with the skins for maceration of 12-15 days in controlled temperatures of 25-28 °C. Fermentation is closely monitored to verify proper parameters and is completed on the lees until malolactic fermentation is finished, and during this period, pumping over is carried out with extreme care. 18 months in French oak barriques. Bottle aged for minimum six months. pH 3.8. TA 4.87 g/l, RS 0.4 g/l. Annual production 150,000 bottles. This is a Sardinian classic by now, with some input from the home of Sassicaia. Serious, dense and multi-layered. Correct and fine with good structure. Much less wild than the Dettori Sardinian wines. (JR)
