Score 95/100 · Drink 2026-2032, Antonio Galloni, Vinous, Jan 2026

The 2002 Brut L'Ermitage is fabulous. Brisk and light on its feet, the 2002 is so impressive. Chalk, mint, slate, white pepper and white orchard fruit are all finely drawn. The relatively high dosage of 12 grams per liter is not especially evident. The 2002 impresses with its precision and tense, vibrant personality.

(52% chardonnay and 48% pinot noir): Bright yellow. Intense, highly perfumed aromas of pear, quince, lemon curd and candied ginger, with a smoky nuance that builds with air. Offers deep but lively orchard fruit flavors given a refreshingly bitter edge by citrus pith and herbs. Finishes smoky and long, with resonating spiciness and lingering toast and floral qualities.

The 2002 Brut L'Ermitage is one of the lighter wines in this vertical. Even so, it retains gorgeous freshness, cut and aromatic lift throughout. White orchard fruit, chalk, mint, spice and white pepper all race across the palate. Brisk acids extend the finish. The 2002 is a wine of total precision. Disgorged: August 2008.
