Good bright red. Very ripe, inviting aromas of musky red cherry and raspberry. Sweet, pure and tactile, with excellent depth to its fine-grained red fruit flavors. Finishes sweet and long, with noble tannins and lingering perfume. Not the last word in complexity but impeccably balanced and approachable already. A big success in 2011. (I should note that this wine showed poorly when I tasted it in November of 2012.)

Bright ruby-red. Very ripe, chocolatey nose could use a bit more lift. Deep and musky on the palate, with a distinctly roasted aspect. Substantial tannins show a dry edge and cut off the wine's fruit today. This may be going through an awkward stage today.

A discreet touch of wood sets off notably ripe yet very fresh aromas of black pinot fruit, cassis, plum and sandalwood. There is fine mid-palate concentration where the extract both coats the mouth but also buffers the moderately firm tannic spine on the succulent but precise finish that displays outstanding depth and length. This is very Charmes in character with its generosity and refinement. Tasted: Apr 15, 2013. Drink: 2019+
