Scented, rich, almost truffly already. Scented, with something decidedly fascinating about this headily perfumed wine with its wonderful nose and jewel-cut delineation. Clear cut and very slightly dry on the finish. (JR)

The 2005 Nuits-St.-Georges Les Lavieres smells of sandalwood, cocoa powder, and lightly-cooked black cherry. Strikingly creamy, polished and plush on the palate, with vividly concentrated cherry fruit and meat juices, it finishes sweet and rich but with strong underlying tannins and stony, alkaline mineral notes. Good deep red. Aromas of black cherry, redcurrant, minerals and nutty oak. A step up in stuffing and sweetness from the Allots, showing more mid-palate texture and depth. Here the substantial dusty tannins hit the palate later, as there's more buffering material.
