The 2009 Chambolle-Musigny Vieilles Vignes from Domaine Jean-Marie Fourrier is exuberant on the nose with red cherries, cranberry and incense aromas, again, with a little alcohol that blurs its delineation, though not to any worrisome degree. The palate is concentrated and grippy, opulent yet balanced with a sweet core of plush red/blue fruit. Velvety smooth towards the finish, I might actually afford this a couple more years in bottle.

Tasted blind, the 2009 Chambolle-Musigny from Jean-Marie Fourrier is drinking beautifully at the moment. It has a pretty nose, bashful at first but soon coming out of its skin to reveal lovely black plum and raspberry leaf scents, the floral component (rose petal and a sprig of wild heather) emerging within ten minutes of pouring. The palate is well-balanced, its opulence betraying the warmth of the growing season, fleshy but detailed with a “perky,” lithe finish. Very fine. Drink now-2018+ Tasted March 2014.

The 2009 Chambolle-Musigny is delicate and a touch ethereal. Crushed flowers and red berries are among the aromas and flavors that emerge from this feminine, delicate wine. The Chambolle is open and totally expressive, even at this early stage.

Violets, cherry cake, tart and lively fruit, some grip on the finish. Lovely to drink now, but certainly structured for keeping. (RH)
