The 2011 Nuits Saint-Georges Les Chaignots 1er Cru has a detailed bouquet with perfumed red cherry, crushed strawberry and raspberry scents that are neatly integrated with the oak. It possesses the generosity and joie-de-vivre common amongst Chevillon’s wines. The palate is medium-bodied with plenty of red berry fruit, saline in the mouth with a pinch of spice, dovetailing into a more refined and nuanced finish that shows class and character. Very fine. Some density and build. Real ambition here with almost a brûlée edge to this. So much delivery of flavour compared with many. Picking date? A barrel thing? (JR)
Good deep red. Expressive nose offers redcurrant, wild cherry and chocolate. Sweeter and lusher than the village offering, but with a slightly chunky quality to its somewhat medicinal flavors of licorice and chocolate. I wanted more floral high notes. This will drink early.
Here too discreet wood spice frames a pretty and cool mix of red and dark pinot fruit that is trimmed in warm earth nuances that are also reflected by the refined, pure and silky middle weight flavors. There is fine complexity and verve to the well-defined and persistent finish. A classic Chaignots of grace and harmony with no lack of aging potential. Tasted: Jan 14, 2013. Drink: 2018+
