Bright deep red. High-toned aromas of redcurrant, plum, dried flowers, tobacco and earth. A bit liqueur-like but not overly sweet, displaying broad, mouthfilling flavors of redcurrant and plum. Finishes with building tannins and a slightly roasted quality. I'd drink this on the early side.

The 2007 Brunello di Montalcino Castello Romitorio emerges from the glass with crushed flowers, sweet red berries, licorice, spices and tobacco. The fruit gains freshness and energy as the wine sits in the glass. Sweet floral notes add lift and brightness on the articulate finish. This is a refined, mid-weight Brunello that impresses for its elegance and class. Anticipated maturity: 2015-2027. Importers: Vinifera Imports, Ronkonkoma, NY; tel. Mid ruby with orange tinge. The vintage’s hallmark sweetness wrapped up in tight oak. Enough freshness on a generous finish. (WS)
