Score 92/100 · Drink 2026-2032, Eric Guido, Vinous, Feb 2026

A deep, vibrant ruby hue, the 2006 Brunello di Montalcino opens with a darkly alluring bouquet of dried black cherries, tobacco, savory herbs, stone dust and sweet smoke. It’s sleek and more lifted than expected, with zesty acidity that enlivens its cedar-laced red and black fruits. Still gently tannic and long, the 2006 leaves minty freshness and nuances of tart blackberry to fade.

Good medium red. Plum, redcurrant, mocha, chocolate and a hint of smoky minerality on the slightly medicinal nose. A sweet, plush midweight with just enough acidity to give shape to the singed plum, cherry and menthol flavors. Fat and intense, but still a tad harsh on the aftertaste.

The 2006 Brunello di Montalcino is a gorgeous wine laced with red cherries, tobacco, cedar and underbrush, all supported by a firm tannic spine. Argiano's 2006 Brunello shows beautiful inner perfume and the structure to develop positively for a number of years. Floral notes appear on the vibrant, polished finish. The estate's Brunello spent 12 months in French oak (which is mostly felt in the wine's textural richness) and completed its aging in cask.
