The 2016 Pinot Noir Estate East Ridge is a wine of real precision and nuance. Although not as obvious as the other wines in this range, the East Ridge speaks with a sense of distinction. Small red berries, chalk, white pepper and blood orange are some of the notes that are laced together in this super-finessed, understated Pinot. In 2016, the East Ridge is incredibly distinctive, not to mention absolutely delicious.

Warmer site. Steep with shallow soil. AXR1 so they have phylloxera. Very heterogenous. Concentrated fruit from a yield of only 15 hl/ha. Pretty intense with quite a brutal nose. ‘The wine has changed quite a bit in the last two years’, according to Jasmine Hirsch, who expresses some doubt at the economic viability of this vineyard. Vigour is reduced, perhaps an effect of the continued drought? Quite austere and chewy. Dry tea leaves on the end… Needs time! (JR)
