(the malo finished three weeks before my visit; vinified with one-third whole clusters): Good full red-ruby. Wild, musky aromas of black raspberry, black cherry, licorice, roasted herbs and roast coffee. Concentrated, thick and very ripe, with Baker's chocolate and mocha notes currently overwhelming the wine's fruit. No shortage of acidity or tannins here but a bit heavy today and in an awkward stage. (By the way, the Groffiers' Passetoutgrains displayed excellent sucrosite and a lot of early personality, and appears to be one of the best vintages to date for this entry-level bottling.)

Domaine Robert Groffier is based in the village of Morey-Saint-Denis and is famous for having some of the most enviable sites in the Côte de Nuits, including a full hectare within Chambolle-Musigny Premier Cru Les Amoureuses – one of the most fiercely collected vineyards in Burgundy.
