The 2016 Bosc Negre is the Mourvèdre dominated cuvée of the estate (there’s 10% tank-aged Grenache), destemmed and brought up in new barrels. It’s another rich, powerful wine from this estate that stays beautifully balanced. Classic notes of kirsch, blackberries, ground pepper, bouquet garni, and smoked earth all flow to full-bodied 2016 that has terrific purity, building tannins, and a layered, multi-dimensional texture that ranks with the best wines out there. It has plenty of upfront appeal but is going to benefit from a few years of bottle age.

Named for the woods that border Château Puech-Haut’s best plot of Mourvèdre, Bosc Negre or the “Black Woods”, the 2016 Bosc Negre is primarily Mourvèdre but includes 20% Grenache, with the Grenache aged all in tank and the Mourvèdre in new French oak. Gorgeous notes of chocolaty dark fruits, violets, and spice all emerge from this deep, full-bodied beauty that has a rich, concentrated mid-palate, awesome purity of fruit, and a great finish. As with the other 2016s from owner Gerard Bru and consultant Philippe Cambie, it appears to be the best to date
The 100% Mourvèdre 2016 Languedoc Saint Drezery Bosc Negre is dark and plummy. Grown in moisture-retentive red clay, it doesn't taste dried or raisiny but is a rich, late-picked style. It's full-bodied, supple and velvety, with hints of dark chocolate and a long, baking-spice finish.
