The 2011 Barolo Bricco Rocche is a renewed interpretation of an old classic. With fruit from the estate's historic property in Castiglione Falletto (that was planted in 1978), the wine shows youthful aromas of dark fruit, dried cherry, blackberry and spice. You already get a sense of the budding tertiary aromas that should evolve towards spice, truffle and licorice. Barolo Bricco Rocche is balanced and ripe. It's ready to be put down in the cellar for five years or more.

Castiglione Falletto. Lively and floral on the nose. Very assertive and concentrated. Quite dramatic for a 2011 – a wine to serve to someone who hungers after the turbocharged style of reds. Good acidity. Well done even if not subtle. (JR)

Castiglione Falletto. Just mid ruby with orange rim. Opulent gingerbread and cherry-jam nose with hints of iron. Supple fruit with cheeky vanilla notes. Gripping, but not rough finish. Quite a seductive little number. Perhaps even a little too flirty for my taste. (WS)

Crushed flowers, sweet tobacco, mint and spices are some of the notes that lift from the glass in the 2011 Barolo Bricco Rocche. The most perfumed and delicate of the 2011 Barolos, the Bricco Rocche captures the contrasts that are so typical of the wines of this part of Castiglione. In other words, the Bricco Rocche can be enjoyed today, yet it also has the pedigree to develop beautifully in bottle for years to come. The style of the year is also very much in evidence, especially in the wine's round, sumptuous textural feel.
