Straw-yellow. Peach, apple, pear and clove on the rather cool nose. Juicy, intense and mineral-driven; precise and delineated. This wiry, high-altitude wine is a bit austere on the finish.

The 2013 Chassagne Montrachet 1er Cru Abbaye de Morgeot was showing some reduction on the nose when I tasted the sample from barrel. The palate is nicely balanced with fresh dewy green apple, a touch of quince and spice lining the finish. It then flows toward a crisp and focused orange rind finish. Nothing extraordinary here, just a well-crafted Chassagne-Montrachet to enjoy over the next 15-20 years.
