A terrific Pinot Noir, Talley’s 2004 Rosemary’s Vineyard offers up aromas and flavors of sweet cherries, underbrush, forest floor and a mossy/mushroom-like character. Sweet plum, black cherry and currant fruit also make an appearance in this full-bodied effort. With good acidity, velvety tannins and a succulent, layered mouthfeel, this 2004 has hit its plateau of full maturity where it should remain for another decade.

Medium ruby-red. A whiff of rooty reduction on the nose, with notes of black cherry, graphite, chocolate, licorice and forest floor. Suave, supple and sweet, with a lush texture to the flavors of dark cherry, dark raspberry, bitter chocolate and mint. A creamy, ripe pinot, finishing with broad, sweet tannins but less cut and verve than the Rincon bottling. (An earlier bottle was livelier but equally reduced and more clenched.)
