The 1989 Gloria shows modest aging. The nose has a little more gumption than the 1989 Chasse-Spleen served alongside, with darker fruit flecked with seaweed and iodine. It's not as cohesive as I would have liked, but I appreciate the light, wild mushroom notes that emerge with time. The palate is medium-bodied with a grainy texture. It is nicely structured with tobacco-infused black fruit and more graphite towards the Cabernet Franc-inspired finish that lends it a Loire-like quality. It does fade a little, but otherwise, good show. Tasted at the 1989 dinner at Piccolino in London.

The 1989 Gloria is a fat, plump, deliciously\agreeable wine with a considerable alcoholic kick in the finish. Fruity, with soft tannins, it will be a fine wine to drink over the next 7-10 years. Anticipated maturity: Now-2000.

Ch. Gloria
Gloria

The modest Ch. Gloria was only created in the 1940s, when Henri Martin – a cooper – purchased some vines. With parcels dotted in amongst the region’s Classed Growths, it produces impressive wines. Today it's managed by Vanessa and Jean Triaud (Henri Martin’s granddaughter and grandson-in-law).
