Tasted blind at the annual “Burgfest” tasting in Brouilland. The 2013 Meursault 1er Cru Genevrières was hugely impressive from barrel, though this showing indicates that the wine has shut down after bottling. It had a slightly subdued bouquet at first, gradually opening with citrus peel, white flowers and a hint of rosewater. Pretty, if tight-lipped at the moment. The palate is medium-bodied with tangy orange peel and sour lemon, nicely integrated oak here with a hint of walnut towards the finish. One for the patient. Tasted May 2016.

Heathy pale yellow. Sexy aromas of stone fruits and brioche are quintessential Meursault. Dense, precise and fine-grained, showing a lovely sweet touch but also excellent energy to its flavors of apricot, peach and toasted bread. Vibrant, taut wine with superb balance.
Good fruit weight and not too much struck-match character. Mid weight and a little firm but not aggressively drying on the finish. (JR)
