When Chisa Bize offered to open a bottle, I made it count by requesting the 2019 Savigny-lès-Beaune 1er Cru Aux Guettes. Soaring from the glass with a perfumed bouquet of rose petals, orange rind, Egyptian musk, Indian spices, raspberries and plums, it's medium to full-bodied, sensual and enveloping, with an ample core of bright, succulent fruit framed by supple, melting tannins, concluding with a saline finish. Any readers who have succeeded in securing a few bottles are going to be delighted.

The 2019 Savigny-lès-Beaune Aux Guettes 1er Cru has an equal mixture of red and black fruit on the nose, plus hints of seaweed and sea spray, very marine-influenced like two or three of Bize’s Savigny crus this year. The harmonious palate is medium-bodied with supple tannins. Perhaps the most precise Savigny at this address. Very persistent on the finish. Great potential.
