Rose-hip and redcurrant notes with delicious violet fragrance and spice on the finish. Much more red fruit than you might expect from Gevrey-Chambertin. Clearly the beneficiary of warm weather. (RH)

From a parcel of 80-year-old vines touching Chames-Chambertin, the 2017 Gevrey-Chambertin Aux Echézeaux is, as usual, Jouan's finest village wine. Wafting from the glass with aromas of smoky plums, cassis, loamy soil and licorice, it's medium to full-bodied, fleshy and richly structured, with good concentration and juicy acids.

Domaine Henri Jouan - producer
Philippe Jouan

The wines of Henri & Philippe Jouan fly under the radar – and, with the current quantities produced (from just three hectares of vines), this is unlikely to change any time soon.
