The 2017 Meursault Poruzots 1er Cru sports quite a hefty reduction on the nose, though I feel there is a quality Premier Cru underneath. It does become a little stinky and eggy with aeration. The palate is medium-bodied with a slightly shrill entry, taut and a little bitter (not unlike the Meursault-Blagny from Jobard that turned up in a previous flight), tapering in toward a very citric finish. It’s difficult to see how this will develop. Tasted blind at the annual Burgfest tasting in Savigny-lès-Beaune.

The 2017 Meursault 1er Cru Poruzots is showing brilliantly, soaring from the glass with aromas of pear, Meyer lemon and oatmeal, framed by a light touch of reduction. Medium to full-bodied, racy and incisive, this is a deep, tensile and incipiently textural Poruzots that displays superb reserves of concentration and energy.
