Score 91/100 · Drink 2019-2024, Antonio Galloni, Vinous, Mar 2022

The 2014 Falstaff is an attractive, mid-weight wine that is drinking very nicely today, naturally in the more slender style of the year. Crushed flowers, mint, spice and plummy dark fruit all develop nicely. My impression is that fruit is going to dry out sooner rather than later, so I would choose to be cautious and not push my luck too much on aging.

Blueberry, blackberry and dark-chocolate and bark aromas. Medium to full body, firm and silky yet profound. Generous but polished and beautiful. Fine-grained.

Their blend of 40% Cabernet Franc, 40% Merlot and 20% Cabernet Sauvignon, the 2014 The Falstaff (200 cases) emerges from multiple vineyards as well as top-notch terroirs, such as Larkmead, Houyi on Pritchard Hill, Weitz and Fortuna. This St.-Emilion-like blend is aged in about 85% new oak and is spectacular. Opaque purple in color with blackberry, creosote, incense and charcoal notes, a touch of spring flowers, blueberry and blackberry, the wine is full-bodied, multidimensional with terrific concentration, purity and palate presence. Drink it over then next 15-20+ years.
