The 2013 Cabernet Franc is a super-distinctive wine. Powerful, deep and succulent, the 2013 exudes personality. The Chappellet Cabernet Franc is probably best described as a red blend given the high percentages of Cabernet Sauvignon and Malbec. Inky blue/purplish fruit, lavender, menthol, sage and spice are nicely pushed forward. This is an unusually supple 2013 that will drink well with minimal cellaring. Silky tannins give the wine its finesse. This is a beautiful wine from Chappellet.

The 2013 Cabernet Franc is a very pretty, floral wine with good aromatic intensity. All things considered, the 2013 has aged impeccably. It is perhaps just a touch slender in build but certainly full of charm. Dollops of Cabernet Sauvignon and Malbec add complexity but also detract from a more pure, varietal expression. It is the most vibrant of the three 2013s I tasted for this report.
