The 2010 Lirac Odyssee, a blend of 60% Grenache, 20% Syrah and 20% Mourvedre aged totally in concrete and bottled unfiltered, reveals attractive meaty, black currant and blackberry fruit intermixed with notions of bouquet garni, charcoal and licorice. Sexy, opulent and full-bodied with abundant fruit, impressive purity and a long finish, it should drink well for 4-6 years. This outstanding Lirac estate is an emerging star in the southern Rhone. From their biodynamic and/or organic vineyards, they produce three separate cuvees of Lirac. Well-known oenologist Philippe Cambie is the consultant at Domaine Duseigneur. A blend of 60% Grenache, 20% Syrah, and 20% Mourvedre that is aged all in concrete and bottled unfiltered, the 2010 Domaine Duseigneur Lirac Odyssee is a delicious, upfront Lirac that boasts peppery, garrigue, forest floor, and both red and black fruit aromas and flavors. Medium-bodied, supple, and yet classy on the palate, with a light texture, excellent focus, and a clean finish, this solid effort has loads of character, is very easy drinking, and will shine for 4-5 years.
(made from 60% grenache, 20% syrah and 20% grenache): Dark ruby. Pungent, smoke-accented aromas of black and blue fruit compote, with a meaty overtone. Ripe and fleshy, offering good depth to its bitter cherry and cassis flavors. Shows a bit of gamey rusticity but possesses good energy and finishes with gentle sweetness and a late jolt of gripping tannins.
