Closed and currently in a more brooding phase, the 2018 Côte Rôtie is a healthy ruby/purple hue and has a ripe, full-throttle style in its black fruits, wood smoke, roasted meats, and peppery nuances. It's full-bodied on the palate, has a round, layered mouthfeel, solid underlying tannins and acidity, and a gorgeous finish. It needs to be hidden in the cellar for at least another 3-4 years and will certainly see its 30th birthday in fine form.

Full bottle 1,370 g. Richer, riper and more flattering than the Terrasses 2018 from brother Jean-Luc. So rich that tasting it blind I wondered whether it might be La Mouline. (At that stage we didn't know it was so young.) Super-clean, pure and gorgeous. One of the lusher Côte Rôties. Really lovely. (JR)

Darker in fruit profile with a lick of black olive, this carries the ripeness of the vintage well on the nose. The palate is slicker and fuller than normal, plump and round in a way that loses just a bit of the edginess that makes Jamet so unique. A big wine for this estate but still very enjoyable with enough aromatic X factor. (TP)

Precise aromas of dark berry preserves, pungent flowers, pipe tobacco and smoky minerals; allspice and succulent herb nuances build in the glass. Broad, alluringly sweet and youthfully chewy, offering intense blackberry, cherry preserve, fruitcake and bitter chocolate flavors and a sexy candied violet flourish. Shows a compelling interplay of power and energy and finishes youthfully tannic and strikingly long, with lingering floral and mineral notes.
