The 2017 Echzeaux Grand Cru is quite reduced on the nose, offering darker fruit than its peers; a touch of wild mint emerges with time. Theres maybe too much winemaking evident at the moment. The palate is a little "soupy" on the entry but displays plenty of extraction. Dense and muscular for an Echezeaux, needing more terroir expression on the grippy finish. Odd showing... I'd like to reassess this at some point. Tasted blind at the Burgfest 2017 tasting.

Light crimson. Ripe, pure red fruit. Deeply inviting, the fruit just very slightly darker in character than the Clos de Vougeot but still delicate for this appellation. Sour-cherry intensity. Tannins are a work of art, so fine but giving the perfect shape for the fruit. Fresh and incredibly persistent. (JH)

The 2017 Echézeaux Grand Cru has a very precise bouquet, a little introverted at first, that features a mixture of red and black fruit and seems to grow in the glass. The palate is medium-bodied with touches of tobacco and graphite lacing the dark plum and blackberry fruit. Very harmonious and long in the mouth, displaying a touch of brine toward the long finish. Excellent.
