The 2019 Echézeaux Grand Cru has a very well-defined nose with perfumed red cherry and blackberry fruit, the oak neatly integrated. The palate is medium-bodied with pliant tannins, lightly spiced, gentle and quite elegant, sporting a dab of cracked black pepper on the finish. Lush 'n lovely. Tasted blind at the Burgfest tasting.

From the Cruots lieu-dit. Cask sample. Deep cherry red. Ripe, rich, dark-fruited intensity hinting at great depth. Powerful, alcoholic and yet still fresh. A big demonstrative wine with a likely long life ahead. Chewy, firm and embryonic. Wait. (JH)

The 2019 Echézeaux Grand Cru was dense and broody on the nose, a stroppy teenager hiding in his bedroom. It only reluctantly offers blackberry, briar and pressed iris flower aromas. The palate is medium-bodied, one of the most decadent of Grivot’s 2019s in barrel. Touches of dark chocolate and black truffle enhance the persistent finish. Very saline and spicy on the aftertaste. This is a long-term Echézeaux.
