Wow, the 2003 Domaine Paul Autard Châteauneuf-du-Pape possesses a stunning nose that continued to improve over the course of the evening with gorgeous black cherry, raspberry, roasted herbs, licorice and earth notes all showing up. Medium to full bodied with nice texture, fine grained tannins and a nice finish.

The 2003 Chateauneuf du Pape is a big, fruity, tasty wine. Quite soft, it will certainly require consumption over the next 4-7 years. It is elegant, attractively plump, with plenty of smoky herbs intermixed with black cherry notes and a bit of licorice and earth. Represented by Russell Herman, Berkeley Heights, NJ; tel. (908) 771-9082. Various American importers.

Dark red. Rich, powerful scents of dark cherry, roasted plum, cured meat and black tea. Firm, well-focused flavors of bitter cherry, licorice and grilled meat are nicely defined and bright. Long, fresh and lively on the finish, with dusty, fine tannins.
