The 2014 Meursault Les Petits Charrons is a rare bottling by Ente, just 202 bottles and 90 magnums. It is quite iridescent in colour. The bouquet is generous, almost exotic with pineapple, guava and light toffee apple scents, and brioche becoming more pronounced with aeration. The palate leans towards the richer side and whilst not the most complex Meursault that I have tasted, there is a sense of hubris that I admire. If you can find one of the remaining bottles, just enjoy! Tasted at Maison de Colombier in Beaune.

Some exotic soft citrus notes on the nose suggest a creamy wine. Then rich, bright and intensely flavored but a bit youthfully disjointed. Finishes with good pineappley lift. When I told Ente that I found this wine more Riesling- than Chardonnay-like, he responded that he likes his wines less when they taste like Chardonnay.

This parcel is by Grands Charrons and Chevaliers. Lime and linden leaves plus some blossom. Lots going on here. Great tension with a wonderful undertow of these vegy aromas and tightly packed fruit and acidity. (JR)
