Magnum. Mid gold. Quite heavy on the nose. Very savoury with some light oaky notes and a little green streak. Still a light astringent note. More structure than fruit – but perhaps it will emerge from its chrysalis. There is lots of matière here. (JR)

Very pale gold color. Soil-inflected aromas of apple, spices, peat and smoky, resiny oak. Urgent and primary in the mouth, with terrific violety lift to the highly concentrated stone and iodine flavors. This boasts an almost solid impression of extract and a metallic suggestion of coiled energy, and yet there's also a deep sweetness here that speaks of the vintage. Finishes with superb thrust and power. Faiveley's Corton-Charlemagne is always difficult to taste early on, but this bottle suggests that the '05 will rank as one of the outstanding recent vintages for this cuvee

Ripe even exotic nose, rich orangey lemon palate. Lovely weight with tiniest edge of toast. Weight and structure for really long life but surprisingly enjoyable now given this incredible concentration and depth. Wow!!! Impressed even at the very end of the tasting. (JH)
