Good deep red. Reticent nose suggests violet, crushed stone and a medicinal component. Then surprisingly fat and sweet in the mouth, but with less floral lift and more earthy complexity than the Estournelles Saint-Jacques. A bit lower-toned too, and hiding more than it's showing today. 33 ha of 40+ year old vines. A more complex and slightly riper if less elegant nose features earthy red pinot, plum and distinct sauvage notes that also characterize the rich, generous and forward medium-bodied flavors that possess an unusually fine, even silky, mouth feel. The admirably lingering finish is supported and shaped by fine but firm tannins and excellent length. This is not a bruiser but it is really quite stylish. *Sweet Spot*
