One of the high points of the range is the 2019 Gevrey-Chambertin Les Evocelles, a lovely wine that opens in the glass with aromas of plums and wild berries mingled with orange rind, exotic spices and rose petals. Medium to full-bodied, deep and intense, its velvety attack segues into a layered, vibrant mid-palate that's built around a bright spine of acidity, concluding with a long, mineral finish.

The 2019 Gevrey-Chambertin Les Evocelles, from a Village Cru adjacent to Les Champeaux with 50% whole bunch and the same new oak, was showing a bit of reduction on the nose, although there seems to be plenty of black fruit here. The palate is more expressive, offering juicy ripe black fruit, and quite saline and almost briny toward the structured finish. Good freshness and energy, although it will require 3–4 years in bottle.

Almost 1 ha of old vines, 70 years old. Cask sample. Rich blackcurrant nose. A little more moderate on the palate than the Coeur du Roy, but very nicely balanced and relatively approachable. Lots of juice. Very clean and lively. (JR)
