Pale ruby. Dunked ginger-biscuits nose. Very fluid, comfortable, well integrated and balanced without being remotely dramatic. Everything in its place. All it could be accused of is of being just a bit too polite and timid. Back-end-loaded (= very long). (JR)

The 2011 Clos des Lambrays Grand Cru just feels a little flat-footed. It has a typical leafy bouquet, nicely defined but bereft of some horsepower, damp moss/undergrowth scents becoming more conspicuous with aeration. The palate is quite sharp and tart on the entry. This is certainly fresh but I wish there was more substance towards the finish. It is a Grand Cru after all. Tasted at 1243 Club in Beaune.

A still somewhat restrained nose features notes of fresh red berries, plum, spice and violets. The medium weight plus flavors possess a sleek and relatively precise mouth feel before terminating in long, balanced and delicious finish where a touch of minerality adds lift. This nicely crafted effort is already drinking reasonably well though I would be inclined to allow it a few more years of cellar time first. With that said, it is certainly enjoyable now.
