Derived from three parcels that together produced four barrels, Berthaut's 2022 Echézeaux Grand Cru unwinds in the glass with aromas of sweet wild berries, orange zest, peonies, smoke and spices. Medium to full-bodied, supple and suave, with terrific depth and purity, it's animated by lively acids and concludes with a penetrating finish.

80% whole clusters. From Les Treux, Les Quartiers de Nuits and Les Champs Traversins (at the mouth of the Combe d’Orveau, adding freshness). Cask sample. Mid-pale ruby. A very distinct note of orange peel. Red floral notes – roses, peony and red cherries on the nose. Soft red fruits, but nothing rich. Lightest of imprints and has real elegance and floral character. Powdery tannins, but good concentration and breadth. One of the finest, most elegant and ethereal Échezeaux of the year. Very fine. (MH)
