The 2019 Berncasteler Doctor Riesling GG shows an intense golden-yellow citrus color and some hints of newer oak on the nose that is otherwise deep, complex and rich as well as refined and flinty, with perfectly ripe fruit aromas intertwined with finely crushed slate notes. Full-bodied, round and elegant on the palate, this is a charming, round and, again, oak-influenced Doctor with fine tannin and acidity structure but not, if I may say so, the dramatic tension a Doctor, no matter which style, should have. This is a really good Riesling with a long and tensile finish, but I would hardly guess it's a Doctor in a blind tasting. 12.5% stated alcohol. Natural cork. Tasted from AP 05 21 in November 2021.

The 2019 Berncasteler Doctor Riesling GG is remarkably fine and intense on the nose, where ripe and concentrated but fine and complex (tropical) fruit aromas are displayed and intertwined with very fine crunchy slate aromas. From 80-year-old-vines, this is a dense and sustainably salty yet fine and elegant Doctor with enormous grip and mineral tension. Impressive yet many years too young to be served too soon. Bottled Tasted at the domain in September 2020.
