The 2009 Gazin has a very concentrated, high-toned bouquet with Merlot firmly in the driving seat, a mixture of black and blue fruit. The palate is rounded on the entry with supple tannin, succulent and glossy in style with macerated black cherries and salted liquorice towards the finish. This needs another year or two in the glass. Tasted blind at Farr Vintners’ 2009 Bordeaux tasting.

The 2009 Gazin is deep garnet colored and gives up broody tar and truffles notes over a core of baked plums, blackberry compote and charred meat plus a waft of leather. Full-bodied, firm and chewy, it has a good core of concentrated, savory flavors and an earthy finish.

Blackish crimson. Interesting sweet-biscuit nose – rather comfortable and confident. Good medium-intensity attack and a little mouth-puckering on the end. A bit more fruit and juice please but a very attractive nose. (JR)
