Very pale ruby indeed. Sweet, pure, light palate entry then marked acidity. For the moment it's a little mean and lacking flesh. Wait. (JR)

(from a crop level of just 28 hectoliters per hectare, according to Frederic Lafarge): Bright medium red. Musky cherry, spices, leather and truffle on the nose, plus a whiff of animal fur. Then surprisingly firm and concentrated, with lovely balance to its red fruit, spice and wild herb flavors. Finishes tannic but not hard, with lingering aromatic character. Very Volnay.

Mossy and quite light on the nose. Lightweight and pretty still with some dissolved gas. Definitely not the real Volnay weapon in their arsenal! (JR)
