Good bright red with ruby tones. Rather wild aromas of black raspberry, smoke and leather. Supple, smooth and approachable; offers good volume for Chambolle and comes across as edge-free. A late dusting of tannins is nicely supported by mid-palate material. Not especially nuanced but this wine, too, will offer early drinkability.

(these vines planted on SO4 rootstock ripen very early; Tardy noted that less pigeage is necessary here): Deep ruby-red. Intense dark berry aromas are lifted by a violet topnote. Juicy, spicy and intense, showing noteworthy focus for a low-altitude Chambolle village wine in this vintage. There's a mineral element here but the soil is actually quite silty. Concentrated wine with a touch of rusticity to its tannins.

The 2014 Chambolle Musigny Les Athets has a clean, lucid bouquet with raspberry confit, hints of iodine coming through, later wilted rose petals. The palate is medium-bodied with a succulent entry that sets the tone for this plush Chambolle. There is good concentration here and it is nicely weighted in the mouth with plenty of "rondeur" on the finish. I would like to see a little more precision once in bottle and that may well develop.
