The 2020 Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Lavaux Saint-Jacques unfurls to reveal aromas of dark berries, rose petals, exotic spices and violets. Medium to full-bodied, layered and complete, with terrific concentration, lively acids and beautifully refined tannins, this is especially promising this year.

The 2020 Gevrey-Chambertin Lavaux Saint-Jacques 1er Cru offers impressive, delineated redcurrant and cranberry fruit on the nose, not powerful, but neat and precise. The palate is medium-bodied with sappy red fruit, quite fleshy and Chambolle-like. Slightly granular in texture towards the marine-tinged finish, I would give this 2-3 years in bottle. Very fine.

Cask sample. Mid cherry red. Very pretty nose of sweet red fruit. Chewy, lively, full of energy and fresh fruit with a fine-boned structure to hold it in shape. Mouth-watering and long. (JH)
