The 2020 Corton Le Rognet Grand Cru has a tightly knit bouquet that needs more time to open in the glass. It offers strong undergrowth scents, with graphite coming through, giving it a Médoc slant. It becomes more floral after 15 minutes. The palate is medium-bodied with pliant tannins, gentle grip, smooth and fleshy, perhaps just a little too sweet on the finish. I would afford this another couple of years in bottle. Maybe it's just a little too "sunny" for my liking. Tasted blind at the Burgfest tasting.

The king of the cellar is likely to be the 2020 Corton Le Rognet Grand Cru, a striking wine in the making that wafts from the glass with notions of red berries, rose petals, exotic spices and licorice. Full-bodied, layered and perfumed, its velvety attack segues into an ample core of concentrated, vibrant fruit, concluding with a long, aromatic finish.

The 2020 Corton Le Rognet Grand Cru has a beguiling floral bouquet, a mixture of red and blue fruit laced with wilted violet and rose petals, perhaps the most mineral-driven of the three Grand Crus from Mallard. The palate is well-defined and structure, quite peppery thanks to the 75% whole bunch with an expansive finish. Watch it vie with the Les Renardes for supremacy.
