Palish red. Smoky, meaty nose doesn't show quite the purity this wine displayed from barrel. Broad and sweet but a bit youthfully closed; in a rather unforthcoming stage. This is round for the vintage but the lingering finish shows a trace of dryness. An awkward showing.

(from 52-year-old vines) Medium red. Sappy, perfumed aromas of red cherry and rose petal. Sweet and juicy but tight, with a lovely core of spicy red berries and maraschino cherry. This boasts purity and precision, not to mention noteworthy finesse of texture. Harmonious acidity carries the finish.
