The 2005 d'Angludet is a vintage that did not impress when I tasted it just after bottling, though it has improved since then. This is clearly fresher than the 2003 that I tasted alongside, with bilberry and boot polish scents emerging with time. The palate has a sweet core of black fruit and a silky texture. There is fine depth here and good length, with notes of black plum and hoisin on the finish. Fine. Tasted at the château.

Tasted blind. Mid crimson. Something a bit agricultural on the nose. Quite dense with the Margaux perfume struggling to emerge. Lightly tarry end. A bit ungainly. (JR)

A sleeper of the vintage, this 2005 seems to be close to its plateau of maturity. It exhibits a dense ruby/plum/purple color, wonderfully sweet and silky tannins, loads of blackcurrant and floral-infused fruit, medium body and a long, layered, elegant and pure personality. It is drinking quite well and exhibiting no reason to extend its aging. This wine should continue to offer gorgeous and good-value drinking for another decade.

Still very youthful. Loads of sumptuous primary fruit. Structure is compact and dense – almost austere. Complete, satisfying and ageworthy. (RH)
