The 2019 Dutruch Grand Poujeaux has a pretty nose of lifted, brambly red fruit and rose petal, though it would benefit from more vigor. The palate is medium-bodied with grainy tannins, a bit conservative and foursquare. There’s just enough sapidity on the finish to keep you interested. Drink over the next decade.

The 2019 Dutruch Grand Poujeaux is an attractive wine to enjoy over the next handful of years. There is a good bit of energy to the blue/purplish fruit, lavender and spice flavors. All this needs is more mid-palate depth. As things stand, the 2019 feels a bit severe, despite its obvious charms.

Half-bottle supplied. 63% Cabernet Sauvignon, 32% Merlot, 3% Petit Verdot, 2% Cabernet Franc. Mid crimson. Fully ripe nose with a mineral streak. Seriously fresh with almost searing acidity and quite a charge of tannins. Not that long. A little lightweight. (JR)
