The 2018 Chambertin Clos-de-Bèze Grand Cru is very cohesive and pure on the nose with dark cherries, raspberry tart and crushed flowers. Hints of Earl Grey emerge with time in the glass. The palate is medium-bodied with pliant tannins. Wonderfully-integrated new oak, quite harmonious with an noticeable peppery finish that is long and tender, but becomes just a little drier with air. Give it at least a couple of years in bottle. Tasted blind at the Burgfest 2018 red tasting.

The 2018 Chambertin Clos-de-Bèze Grand Cru has so much fruit on the nose: blackberry, sous-bois and cedar, more rose scents than I observed out of barrel last year. I feel that this is more powerful than the 2019, an unapologetically extravagant Clos de Bèze yet with a lithe, sensual finish that actually reminds more of Armand Rousseau. Yet - it's that good.
Heady, liqueur-like on the nose. Rich but (just) not too sweet. Arguably there is more life on the Bonnes Mares. Seems to be a little more precocious than the Bonnes Mares. (JR)
