The 2021 Corton Les Renards Grand Cru is certainly much improved after a decidedly poor showing from barrel. It has a more complex bouquet with clever use of whole clusters, hints of Earl Grey infusing the red berry fruit. There is just a very minor acetic tincture, though it does not bother too much. The palate is tensile from the start with edgy tannins, almost brittle, though there is a little herbaceousness towards the second half. This Corton is right on the edge in terms of ripeness and under-ripeness and it does taper towards its chalky finish. Intriguing in many ways, certainly fresh. Keep it in the cellar for a couple of years. Tasted blind at the Burgfest tasting.

The 2021 Corton Les Renards Grand Cru is the only survivor from the appellation this year. Ripe black cherries and wild strawberry on the nose, a touch of loam and pine cone. The palate is plush and sweet on the entry, quite candied but here I detect a little greenness that is jarring on the finish. Question mark over this cru.
