(tasted from tank; just one-and-a-half barrels produced: one new feuillette and one used barrique ; a majority of this blend comes from Les Treux and Quartiers de Nuits, with 50% of the crop lost to frost): Bright dark red with ruby tones. Sappy black cherry aroma shows an almost liqueur-like quality. Plush, suave and savory, with deep dark berry fruit joined by a note of chocolate on the firmly tannic finish. Boasts very good stuffing but I wanted a bit more complexity and class.

The 2016 Echézeaux Grand Cru comes from two parcels that were reduced by 40% due to frost. This includes 60% whole bunch, and that comes through on the nose which feels a little stemmy and just obscured the fruit a little. Hopefully, it will all meld together by the time of bottling. The palate is medium-bodied with firm tannin. This feels quite structured, chalky in texture, with hints of mulberry and orange pith toward the foursquare finish. It will require three to five years in bottle, at least, to just shave off the edges.
