FINE+RARE, Apr 2023

A wine that punches well above its weight, the 2022 Domaine de Chevalier balances juicy red and black fruit notes (damson, raspberry and blackcurrant) with fine lilac and violet notes. The firm, tightly wound tannins support the dense core of fruit, while more savoury notes of cocoa and dark chocolate propel the wine forward. This is impressive, with great energy and freshness. Blend: 69% Cabernet Sauvignon, 35% Merlot, 3% Petit Verdot, 2% Cabernet Franc

The 2022 Domaine de Chevalier has a very nuanced and classy bouquet, beautifully defined with the oak seamlessly integrated. Black fruit, tobacco and light gravelly scents. The palate is medium-bodied with finely chiselled tannins, very pure fruit, fleshy but there is still real structure and focus on the finish. Very classy, very sophisticated. Tasted twice blind at the Southwold tasting in London.

Diam 30 closure. Tasted blind. Rich with top-quality oak and creaminess – positively unctuous! But a little fresher than wine no 1 in this flight, which it resembles [Ch Malartic Lagravière Blanc]. Good stuff! Slight bitter on the end. [ Much richer than usual!] (JR)
