(production here was 42 hectoliters per hectare, vs. an average of 27 for the estate's vines in Chambolle-Musigny; vinified with 40% whole clusters): Bright, dark red with ruby tones. Deep but youthfully subdued scents of dark raspberry, flint and mocha, lifted by a rose petal topnote. A fairly large-scaled, dense wine, and also a step up in intensity and inner-mouth energy from the Charmes, with its flavors of raspberry, cherry, flinty minerality and earth accented by flowers and spices. The longest and most floral of these young 2015s, finishing with very firm tannins that spread out to lightly dust the palate. This wine has the spine to support a slow and graceful evolution in bottle.

The 2015 Clos Saint-Denis Grand Cru has an expressive bouquet with layers of blackberry, raspberry preserve and undergrowth aromas, very well delineated and gaining intensity in the glass with every swirl. The palate is medium-bodied with sappy black cherry and cassis fruit. The tannins feel very fine, imparting a sense of symmetry, whilst the graphite edge on the finish lends tension and edginess. There is plenty of energy in situ, completing an excellent Clos Saint-Denis. This is definitely the pick of Amiot-Servelle's 2015s - a serious yet very promising Clos Saint-Denis.

An overtly spicy and floral-suffused nose is composed primarily by notes of red and dark currant, cherry and soft wood toast hints. There is noticeably better refinement to the lightly mineral-inflected medium weight flavors that coat the mouth on the serious and even slightly austere finale. Despite being more elegant this is also more structured and this too is going to require an extended amount of patience. Dec 2016, www.burghound.com
