A blend of 97% Merlot and 3% Cabernet Franc, with malolactic in barrel, and no filtration, it is a dense, surprisingly powerful, robust 2001 exhibiting a saturated ruby/purple color, and plenty of sweet, chocolatey, espresso-infused black cherry fruit. Deep, chewy, and muscular yet surprisingly pure and layered, it should drink well young, yet evolve for a decade. This brilliantly made Lalande de Pomerol is fashioned by the same producer as Pomerol’s La Croix St.-Georges. Everything about the winemaking is artisinal. Sadly, the production is small since the vineyard is only 3.5 acres.
