The 2009 Auxey-Duresses 1er Cru is lovely. Sweet red berries, flowers, mint and spices emerge from this supple, entry-level offering. This is a very strong showing for the Auxey-Duresses. Anticipated maturity: 2012-2016. This is a very strong set of wines from Romain Taupenot. The 2009s are quite marked by the year. Today my preference is for the 2010s because the cooler year balanced some of the more overt, fruit-forward leanings that define the house style. The 2009 Auxey-Duresses 1er Cru is another wine that struggles to handle the richness of the jammy, concentrated fruit. Floral, mineral notes add complexity and nuance on the finish, but this, too, comes across as a site that is not particularly well-suited to the approach here.
Not racked. Blend of Duresses and Les Grands Champs. Deep crimson. Sweetish and intense. Bright fruit and nice balance. Quite firm on the end. (JR)
