Tasted blind at the Burgundy 2011 horizontal tasting in Beaune. The Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru Grands Ruchottes 2011 is missing a little fruit intensity on the nose with light undergrowth scents, just a touch of SO2 that needs to sort itself out. The palate is balanced with a touch of peach on the entry and then it tightens up and feels compact on the finish, though it does loosen up and flex its muscles with 10+ minutes in the glass. Give this 2 or 3 years to absorb the oak.

This is also reduced to the point that reading the aromas is impossible except again to observe that the underlying fruit seems quite ripe. There is a cool restrained to the much more mineral-inflected flavors that are both bigger and richer while displaying focused power on the saline, clean and dry finish that delivers first-rate length. A wine of character, harmony and grace. Tasted: Jun 11, 2013. Drink: 2018+
